Ash Roots Growing across the Stream?
At first observation, these Ash tree roots would appear to be growing across the stream! This would not happen in nature, the explanation lies in the fact that the A120 and drainage of a farmers field have in greatly increased the flow of water in what used to be a gently meandering stream. The increase in water flow has resulted in erosion of the bank and the exposure of the tree roots.
The increased water flow has had a detrimental effect on the Golden Saxifrage, downstream, a rare plant species for which the wood was famous.
